Angelou Centre
An innovative project targetting Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) women who are economically inactive- informed by their own perpectives. ASPIRE 2 B will reach out to BAME women across Newcastle, those born in the UK and those who arrive as spouses, through outreach, partnership work, networking and social activities/events. It will engage them in training and/or work by: facilitating access to information on careers and work opportunities through culturally intelligent advice and guidance; customised skills training, including general employability as well as vocational skills, personal development and confidence building through MAGIC career coaching; mentoring by BAME role models; and special events to influence families/communities and mainstream agencies to recognise and address inequalities of access, opportunities and outcomes faced by BAME women in Newcastle. On-site creche facilities will enable BAME women, who become mothers at a significantly earlier age, to overcome a key barrier to economic participation.
