Why Do I Need a CV
Many employers will request one as part of their application processes, even in instances where they ask you to complete an application form. Therefore we would encourage you to compile a CV in order that you are prepared to begin your job search. Writing or updating a CV is a good way of remembering what you have done – over the years even the best of us forget details that may provide us with useful ways of demonstrating transferable skills to future employers.
There is no right way of putting a CV together, it is very much a matter of personal preference, but there are a few guidelines to be taken into account. The information that you should include is:
- Full name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Key skills
- Education, qualifications and training
- Career history
- Personal interests
- Referees
Your personal interests are often as important as qualifications and work history so think carefully about what you put, but be honest. Think about the transferable skills, which your hobbies have helped you to acquire.
- Wide ranging interests suggest a well-rounded adaptable person
- Team activities highlight your ability to work as part of a team
